Mom Says Baby Buying Claim Is A Lie

A Portsmouth mom spoke out about the nightmare of being falsely accused of buying a baby.

We told you that Portsmouth Police received a report of a possible case of child abuse on Wednesday.

As you’d expect, police and Children Services began an investigation. On Friday night, SCDN heard from the adoptive mother of the baby. She said it was all a lie and spoke out about her family’s ordeal, calling it “mind-blowing.”

The Real Story

Here’s what she says really happened. A relative became pregnant and wanted to put the baby up for adoption. The mom and her boyfriend decided they would adopt the baby. The decision was made early in the pregnancy and no payment was ever requested. “She was willing to give us the baby or give the baby up for adoption to the state.”

She says she has no idea why the woman told police the baby was traded for drugs.

“I don’t know how or why the girl said what she said. We didn’t pay her in any form. Especially not weed. Neither me or my boyfriend even smoke/have anything to do with any form of weeds or drugs. It’s just nonsense honestly.”

The Investigation

According to the adoptive mother, the woman who made the complaint is a distant relative of the biological mother. She also said the investigation is closed. CPS & PPD visited both her home and the biological mother’s home. “They all know the entire story and know that none of what that girl said was true.”

She said, “It’s just more annoying than anything that it was said. We had nothing to hide so it wasn’t really a problem.”

Insane Story

This mom also has her own suspicions as to why the complaint was made.

“It was an insane story. It’s in no way true. The girl who called has her own open CPS case. So the only thing I can think of is that she wanted some heat off of her. Because she had no reason to say anything like that. It’s truly mind blowing.”
