An upset daughter contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at 9:40 am to report scammers had targeted her mother and made off with $1,000.
The Lucasville woman fell for a gift card scam. Crooks told her she had won money but needed to purchase two $500 Apple Gift Cards to pay for the fees attached to the prize. They instructed the woman to take pictures of the gift card numbers and send them.
Once scammers have the numbers, they can cash in the gift cards, and the funds are untraceable. Officers took information for a report.
