Medics from Portsmouth Ambulance found themselves in the middle of a complicated situation after a resident at a local nursing home decided she wanted to go home.
The woman had signed an AMA from the facility and decided she wanted to go home. However, medics explained to the woman they couldn’t take her home and they could only transport her between the nursing home and the hospital.
Staff at the nursing home told the medics to take the woman to SOMC for treatment, but the woman didn’t want to go. The nursing home staff threatened to call the police on the medics if they didn’t take the woman to the hospital.
The facility couldn’t get in contact with the woman’s emergency contact. An officer spoke to the woman and convinced her to agree to go to SOMC and speak to a social worker and hospital staff.
