A worried social worker from the Chillicothe Veteran’s Hospital contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to report a patient in crisis. The social worker said they were on the phone with the seemingly intoxicated man, who said he was at a gas station. He threatened to kill himself if the VA did not send him an Uber.
When officers checked into the man’s history, they learned he’d threatened ODNR officers and Shawnee State Lodge employees in the past.
A deputy found the man lying under a trailer at Weaver’s in Nile Township. The man asked officers for a ride to Portsmouth.
Deputies said he didn’t appear intoxicated, though he did express his distaste for officers. He told them he was homeless and usually stayed under bridges in the area. Deputies gave him a ride to the Speedway in Portsmouth.
