Portsmouth Officers performing a welfare check stumbled across a potentially dangerous situation for an elderly resident.
It started when concerned callers said they were planning on shoveling the driveway for an 85-year-old woman. They’d spoken to the woman an hour earlier, but when they arrived at the house, the door was unlocked, but she didn’t answer when they called out.
Officers headed to the home to check things out. Police discovered the woman was in a back room of the house with the TV up, so she didn’t hear her visitors.
Unfortunately, they also found a hoarding situation at the home, with just a narrow pathway from room to room, and the house was not safe for the elderly. They said the woman was not happy to see them.
Police said they would contact Portsmouth Code Enforcement to see what could be done to help.
