The Southeastern Ohio Branch of the Alzheimer’s Association has announced a telephone support group. This group is ideal for those caregivers who can’t make it out of the house to seek out an in-person support group meeting.
If you’re taking care of a loved one coping with Alzheimer’s Disease, this is a wonderful resource to get the support you need, especially if you can’t be away.
The purpose of the group is to provide social support for often-isolated caregivers and share information about services as well as ideas about coping with the stress of caring for a loved one coping with the disease.
This is for residents of Adams, Brown, Highland, Ross, Scioto, Lawrence, Jackson, and Vinton, and Gallia Counties. The group will meet the third Thursday of every month between noon and 1:30 pm. For those interested in in-person meetings, The Scioto County Memory Disorder group meets Thursday, February 20, at 2 pm at Hillview Retirement Center. The group offers caregivers, family, and friends of persons with dementia the opportunity to share experiences and develop a mutual support system.
The Pike County Dementia Caregiver Support Group meets on Wednesday, February 26 at 2 pm at Bristol Village.

With this disease, as well as other “slow kill” afflictions, the choice for quality care no longer becomes that of the patient. At a point, there is a release. A changing of the guard. The strong, vibrant, independent person you’ve loved for years has been reduced to a helpless babe.
