Portsmouth Man Hits Mom In Face

A Portsmouth man hit his mom in the face and police towed close to a dozen vehicles for various violations. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Knives and Guns

Just after 1 am, officers responded to  Kendall Avenue for a reported assault. A woman claimed a man chased her around with a knife.  Officers reviewed surveillance video from the scene. Police said no knife was involved. The woman said someone mentioned a knife. The man had already left the scene.

At 4:17 pm, a Harding Avenue caller reported a man pulled a gun when she tried to retrieve a relative’s belongings. The man said the woman was aggressive about attempted to come into his home.  Police stood by while the relative retrieved her belongings.

DIY at 4 am

At 4:28 am, a Kendall Avenue caller reported their neighbors for using tools.  When officers responded to the scene, the residents promised they would keep it down.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

  • Just before 5 pm, a Robinson Avenue caller reported people inside the fence at Goodwill Stealing.  Officers detained one man and called for an ambulance. Police took information for a report.
  • A 17th Street caller told police people took money from her bank account without her permission at 8:44 am. She said several people have access to the account. Officers advised her to contact the bank and cancel her card.
  • At 9:32 am, a 2nd Street caller reported stolen jewelry. Fifteen minutes later the person called again. They said the jewelry was only misplaced.
  • A Glover Street caller told police a man took her Apple Watch and iPad from her apartment at 9:44 am. Police attempted to contact him at a Center Street address. They were allowed to search the premises but he was not there.
  • The American Legion Post on Gallia reported a missing heater at 12:29 pm. Police took information for a report.
  • An employee at a Franklin Avenue business found a glove and a hacksaw under a vehicle in the lot. Police impounded the item.

Mom Hit on Mabert Road

A Mabert Road caller contacted police at 5:35 am to report her son was yelling at her and hit her in the face with a pack of cigarettes.

The man left before the police arrived. Officers took information for a report.

Parking Crackdown

  • PPD continued its parking crackdown.  At 7:47 am, officers arranged for a tow for a  junk vehicle from Mabert Road.
  • At 8:01 am, an officer impounded a 5th Street vehicle with expired tags. Police also arranged for a tow truck.
  • An officer issued a 72-hour citation to another vehicle with expired tags on 5th Street just before 11 am. That vehicle was also towed.
  • At 11:25 am, an officer cited two vehicles on Kentland for 72-hour parking violations. Police impounded and towed both vehicles.
  • Police towed a vehicle with two flat tires that parked in front of a Thomas Avenue address for a month at 4:46 pm.
  • Officers moved on to Wayne Avenue at 5:33 pm and arranged to tow another vehicle with two flat tires that were originally cited back on Marcy 7.
  • At 9:30 pm, police arranged for a tow of a vehicle from the 1800 block of Kendal on a 72-hour parking violation.
  • Officers cited a Wayne Avenue vehicle for blocking the fire hydrant and had it towed at 10:16 pm.

Under The Influence

  • A 6th Street caller reported a man passed out in a black Dodge Dakota at 8:56 am. Police called an ambulance for the man and cited him for an open container. PPD also issued a citation for fictitious tags on the vehicle.
  • Police responded to the Dollar General on Gallia for a report of a possibly high man behaving strangely. Officers took a man they have frequent contact with into custody, booked him, and released him on his own recognizance.
  • At 8 pm, police responded to a report of a Frank & Steins Lounge customer unable to stay awake. Officers assisted in taking the man to the hospital.
  • Police responded to a report of an OD on Kendall Avenue at 9 pm. An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital.

Disturbing the Peace

  • At 11:26 am, a Gallia Street caller reported a disturbance behind the Silver Palace. A woman threw cans and yelled. She then went into Cricket. Police read her a Miranda warning and impounded items from her.
  • The Manager of Big Lots reported that two brothers who are known to panhandle and harass customers were at it again at 12:42 pm. Officers advised one of the brothers to stay off the property.
  • Police responded to a disturbance on Center Street at 3:52 pm. Details about what happened are sketchy, but police impounded a vehicle, disposed of several syringes, and took a man to the jail to get served a summons.

Suspicious Activity

  • A 17th Street caller reported people going into the window of a home at 5 pm. Police read three men their rights but didn’t arrest anyone.
  • At 11:19 pm, a Holiday Inn employee asked police to check a vehicle sitting in the alley. Police found a subject with an active warrant from Franklin County and took them into custody.
