Portsmouth Overdose Victim Revived

Portsmouth Police and EMS helped revive an overdose victim and went out of their way to help out after a traffic stop got complicated. Plus they checked out reports of kids in danger and even helped a dog get home safely. We break down the highlights in these 10 slides.

Under The Influence

  • At 2:33 am, officers responded to Endicott Avenue for an overdose report. A medic administered Narcan to revive a patient. The patient refused further treatment.
  • Officers responded to Summit Street for a report of a man passed out in the alley. He refused medical treatment. Police took him into custody.
  • At 9:29 pm, officers responded to a man passed out at the wheel of a vehicle at 12th and Findlay. Police took him into custody and arranged for the vehicle to be towed.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

  • Just after midnight, a caller reported a man and woman fighting as they walked down Gallia Street. When police caught up with them, they found the pair had argued verbally. They advised them to stop.
  • Police responded to Aldi on Gallia for a report of a man and woman arguing behind the store. The man left before police arrived. The woman said it was only a verbal argument.
  • At 6 pm, officers responded to another report of a man and woman fighting. The incident happened on Layton Drive. The man blocked the driveway and would not allow the woman to leave. They’d worked out the problem by the time police arrived.
  • Police answered a call to Wilson Avenue at 7:30 pm for a report of men fighting in the street. The caller said a black Mustang and a Corvette were involved in the fight. Police issued a summons.

Turn It Down, Kids

A Thomas Avenue caller reported loud music coming from a neighbor’s apartment just before 3 am. An officer spoke to the resident. She said her kids were playing loud music. She made them turn it down.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • Police responded to the Holiday Inn on 2nd Street at 6:41 am for a report of work trucks with busted windows. Several items were missing, including a weed eater blower and a generator.
  • A shoplifter at Vandervort Supply attempted to put up a fight when an employee caught him in the act just after 4:30 pm. Police discovered he already had a warrant and took him into custody.

Door Kicked In

At 8:15 am, police responded to 6th street for a report of a broken door. The caller reported a door kicked in on a rental property. The landlord kicked out the tenants the day before.

It appeared someone entered the house and boarded the doors shut from the inside to prevent workers from making entry to the house. The landlord requested extra patrols.

Welfare Check

An elementary school asked police to check on the welfare of two kids who haven’t contacted the school in three weeks.

Police headed to their 4th Street home to speak to their guardians. The woman said she and the kids are sick and they didn’t go to school. Police advised her to notify the school.

Who Let The Dog Out?

Officers responded to a request to locate the owner of a loose pit bull on Varney Avenue. Police found the owner and safely returned the dog.

Meanwhile at Speedway

A traffic stop at Speedway at 11:14 am, ended up being pretty complicated when a man claimed he was having chest pains. Officers arranged for animal control to pick up a pet in the vehicle and also took a woman in the vehicle back to Lawrence County.

A tow company picked up the vehicle.

Unwanted Visitor

A Walnut Street caller reported a suspicious man entering a Walnut Street home just after 1 pm. The man took plywood from the home and made entry. The caller said he had a backpack and other bags in his possession.

Police took him into custody.

Baby In Danger?

At 7:48 pm, a caller reported a baby in danger on Franklin Avenue. The caller said the child’s mother was on drugs and neglecting the baby.

Police said the baby seemed fine and observed no signs of drug use.
