From the Portsmouth Ohio Police Chief’s Daily Briefing

  • Just a couple of minutes later, a Center Street caller reported 4 people behind a condemned house banging and throwing stuff.

  • Just after 9 pm, an employee at Kroger reported a man on a bench near the pharmacy yelling at customers. Police took him into custody.

Domestic Disturbance

At 5:23 am, officers responded to the Royal Inn when a woman reported her ex-boyfriend kicked in a door and left.

Officers noted the mirror on the door was broken, but the door was functioning. Since the two are known to have issues, police advised her not to have him over and to call them immediately if she sees him. She was unhappy to discover that the motel would likely hold her responsible for damage to the room.

Homeless Issues

  • Officers were out at the Grant Bridge at 7:20 am, encouraging homeless people to move long.
  • About 15 minutes later they spoke with another group of homeless people at Tracy Park. Police reported the group had totally trashed the stage area and were sleeping there.
  • Police told them to leave and called Portsmouth City Service to clean up.
  • By 10 am, there was another group smoking in the park and police observed more trash left around the stage.

Neighbors Confront Group Over Needles

Three Kendall Avenue residents confronted a group of alleged drug users in the 1800 block of Kendall Avenue just after 9 am.

The caller reported a group of three women and two men left syringes on the ground. The caller, her boyfriend, and a neighbor argued with the group about it.

She reported the group was now walking towards 17th Street.

Identity Theft

  • Just before 10 am, a caller contacted police to tell them she believed she’d been hacked. The woman received two phone calls that her caller ID labeled as a spam risk. However, the caller IDs showed her insurance company and Spectrum as the callers. She said she did not give any personal information to the callers. Officers advised her to monitor her bank accounts for suspicious activity.
  • At 9 pm, a Pleasant Avenue caller reported she fell victim to a scam and sent a picture of her ID to someone claiming to be “Agent George Brown.” Officers advised her to contact the Attorney General’s Office.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

  • A 20th Street caller reported a push mower stolen from their backyard at 1 pm. An officer took information for a report.
  • A former client of a halfway house reported that a current resident stole a package she had delivered to the address at 2 pm. She later said she would attempt to contact the manager and pick up her mail and other items. Police advised her to call back if she needed to file a report.
  • At 1:50 pm, a Rose Street caller reported her son’s friend stole a phone valued at $300. Police took information for a report.

Under The Influence

A caller from a local rehab facility asked officers to dispose of drugs confiscated during a patient intake. However, they did not share the name of the person with the drugs due to HIPPA regulations.
