Portsmouth Police Find Wanted Man in Attic

Threats with Weapons

· Just after midnight, a Summit Street caller said a man was after her son with a baseball bat and TASER. Officers spoke to the involved parties. Police determined the men had threatened each other. Neither one wanted to make a report.

· Police responded to Grandview Avenue for a report of two men fighting on a porch. One man threatened the other with a gun. Officers took one man into custody.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Police responded to the Speedway on Gallia for a report of a man who refused to leave at 9:54 am. By the time police got there, he’d taken off in the direction of Kendall Avenue.

The man called the police at 10:51 am and they informed him to stay away from the property.

The man headed back to Speedway to get a refund at 11 am. The store requested an officer standby during the transaction. He never showed up.

Under The Influence

· A Gay Street caller spotted someone lying in the bushes at 4:38 am. Police transported the man to the hospital.

· Just before 1 pm, a caller reported a man slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle in the BP parking lot on Gallia. The car left before the police arrived.

· At 9:38 pm, witnesses reported a tattooed man jumping in and out of traffic on Gallia. Police caught up with the guy and issued a warning.

· Police returned to Speedway at 9 pm for a report of an apparently high man. He was gone by the time they arrived. However, a guy matching his description was seen stumbling into traffic near McDonald’s half an hour later. Again, he left before the police arrived.

Hiding in the Attic

Police forced their way into a Mabert Road home just after 1 pm at the request of a probation officer. They found their guy up in the attic. Neighbors were concerned about the welfare of the man’s sister, whom they hadn’t seen lately. Police said she was fine, just sleeping.

Suspicious Weapon

Officers investigated the circumstances surrounding a 9mm semi-auto handgun pawned at Circle City Pawn back on April 8.

Police confiscated the weapon for evidence.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

· At 3:59 pm, police took a report of $40 missing from a local nursing home.

· A Carrol Avenue caller reported a missing safe key just after 8 am. The caller was unsure if anything was missing from the safe.

· Another missing stimulus check, this time from Marsh House. An officer said he would contact the IRS and get back with the victim later.

Cry For Help

A worried grandmother asked police to check on the safety of her daughter and grandchildren after the woman sent a video to the mother threatening suicide.

Grandma picked up the kids. Police could not get the woman to come to the door.

Go Directly To Jail

Officers picked up a man with open bench warrants at Gallia and Broadway at 5:30 pm. Previously, they’d only issued a summons and sent him to the hospital because he claimed medical issues.

However, last time he failed to show up to court. This time, the police took him to jail.
