PPD officers were kept busy Wednesday and Thursday responding to over 100 calls. There were strange smells, stolen stimulus money and an alarming case where an 11-year-old shared sexually explicit images on Snapchat.  There were also a number of calls for suspected overdoses.  We’ll hit the highlights in 6 parts.

1

OD and Drug-related.

  • Just before 9 am on Wednesday, police were called to the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street for a report of someone falling and hitting their head. It turned out to be an overdose.
  • Just after 11:30 am on Wednesday, a woman overdosed on the sidewalk near Robinson and Offnere. She was up and around by the time police arrived and refused treatment.
  • Just before 6 pm on Wednesday, officers responded to Kroger where a man had been sitting in the same spot for half an hour without speaking. Police believe he has a medical condition as a result of past drug abuse.. They took him home.
  • Police were called to the Speedway on Gallia just after Midnight on Thursday. An employee found suspected drugs on the premises. Police took them to destroy.
  • Officers were called to 23rd Street just before 3 pm on Thursday for a report of a man acting like he was high. Police say he’s homeless and there was no place to take him.
  • Around 7:30 pm on Thursday, PPD was called to the Monroe Street Rally’s for a woman overdosing in a vehicle. She was transported to SOMC.
  • Officers administered Narcan to a man overdoing at a Wayne Avenue apartment just before 10 pm on Thursday.
  • Around 2 am Thursday, they were called to the Woodbine Apartment on Kendall for a possible OD. The man was alert by the time officers arrived. He was taken to SOMC.
  • Two hours later, officers were called to Spring Street for another possible OD. The man refused assistance.
  • Just after 6 am on Friday, police were called to the Holiday Inn on 2nd Street for a possible OD. The Fire Department offered aid. She refused to go to the hospital.

Not My Drugs, Not My Problem

The Owner of Autobhan Auto Werks called police at 10 am on Wednesday to report he’d found 2 pouches of Fentanyl, a digital scale, and a crack pipe in the toolbox of a fired employee.

Officers asked him to gather up the items and leave them at the door but he refused. He didn’t feel it was his job since he was paying for police protection.

School’s Not Out?

An instructor from a virtual academy contacted police about the welfare of a 7-year-old student who hadn’t logged into class in 25 days. She’d called the house but couldn’t reach an adult.

Officers went out to his Ritchie Street home around 11 am on Wednesday. The boy seemed fine. His mom apparently thought that school was out because of the COVID-19 crisis.

4

Snapchat Predator

Just before noon on Wednesday, officers responded to a frightening situation. A woman reported a male had made friends with her 11-year-old daughter on Snapchat. He convinced the girl to send him nude pictures and a sexual video and is now distributing the material to others on social media.

5

Stimulus Money Stolen

  • Officers were called to the First Stop Market on Harding at noon Wednesday. A woman wanted assistance in getting her purse back from someone she’d just broken up with. When the purse was recovered, the wallet was missing. As was the woman’s Stimulus money.
  • At 6 pm, they were contacted by the Board of Developmental Disabilities to take a report for a Hudson House resident who said her boyfriend took her Stimulus money from their joint checking account. Since it was a joint account, it’s actually a civil matter.
6

What’s That Smell?

Officers responded to the Pizza Hut on the Scioto Trail for the report of a strange smell just after midnight on Wednesday. Officers said nothing smelled strange.
