Judge Mark Kuhn sentenced a prison addiction counselor caught red-handed smuggling drugs to Lucasville inmates to 4 years and 11 months behind bars Thursday in Scioto County Common Pleas Court.
Shelley Mathias pleaded guilty back in July for her part in a drug trafficking scheme at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility where she worked as an addiction counselor.

Her sentencing was postponed multiple times due to health problems. Officials recorded Mathias communicating with two convicted drug traffickers about their plans to bring drugs into SOCF.
Her husband, Corrections Officer Matthew Mathias was stabbed 32 times by inmates at another facility back in 2018. Coworkers who rallied around Mathias at the time of the issue, raising funds and donating their sick and vacation time to her so she could be with her husband expressed disgust at her action saying she had endangered her clients and her fellow employees.
