A court-ordered protection order wasn’t enough to keep a Lucasville man away from his alleged victim — and this time, he ended up back in handcuffs.
Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in Lucasville for a wellness check after a concerned family member reported that her relative was acting “weird” on the phone. She told dispatchers the relative’s ex-boyfriend, who was under a protection order, was at the house and she feared something was wrong.
When deputies arrived, the situation escalated fast. The man tried to run from officers, but deputies caught up to him and held him at Taser point before taking him into custody.
During the arrest, deputies say they found a large amount of drugs on him. The man was identified as Jacob Thompson — the same individual charged with domestic violence earlier this month.
Court Gave Him a Chance — He Took Another Shot
Records show Thompson was arrested on October 13 for domestic violence. The court appointed him a public defender and released him on his own recognizance, on the condition that he stay away from the victim.
That order didn’t last long. Following this latest arrest, Thompson was booked into the Scioto County Jail on new charges of domestic violence and violating a protection order. He appeared in court the next morning, where the judge decided he’ll now need to post bond if he wants out before his November 17 hearing.
Deputies Step In — Again
This case highlights the challenges officers face enforcing protection orders when abusers refuse to comply. Their quick response likely prevented a dangerous situation from escalating further.
Protection Orders Matter — But They Need Enforcement
Protection orders are legal tools, not magic shields. They must be reported and enforced the moment they’re violated.
If you or someone you know is being harassed or threatened despite a protection order, call 911 immediately — officers will respond. It’s always better to make the call than risk another tragedy.
