What started as a trespassing complaint in Lucasville turned into a tense search through the woods — and ended with two people in handcuffs.
Deputies were called to a home after reports that a man who was barred from the property by a protective order had shown up anyway. When officers arrived, they discovered the man also had an open warrant through the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect took off running into the woods as soon as he spotted law enforcement. Deputies searched the area but couldn’t find him. About an hour later, another 911 call came in — the man was reportedly back and possibly hiding in a shed.
This time, officers found him. Deputies arrested Clarence Lane for violating a protection order, domestic violence, and failure to appear. They also arrested Cynthia Lane for failure to appear and violating a protection order.
Both were booked into the Scioto County Jail.
Clarence Lane appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and was released on his own recognizance. He’s scheduled to return to court on November 6.
Cynthia Lane appeared separately and was held in jail under bond pending her next hearing on October 30.
Authorities say the case is a reminder that protective orders only work when they’re enforced — and when victims and neighbors call for help the moment a line is crossed.
