Pup Protects Confused Elderly Owner

Portsmouth Police uncovered an incredibly sad situation on Sunday involving a confused elderly woman and her loyal dog. They also dealt with several tense domestic situations and a lot of missing electronics. We’ve got all of the highlights.

Flipped out

Sunday

  • On Saturday Evening a woman called police to tell them her boyfriend had flipped over a table at her Cherry Street home. The man also broke pictures and made threats before leaving.
  • Just before 12:30 am, she reported that he’d come back to the home while she was out. The man damaged more property and took his vehicle.
  • At 2:19 am, the woman’s brother called back. He said the man had returned to the home. He was drunk and had two other intoxicated people with him. The woman left the premises to stay with her mother.

Man With  A Gun

Sunday

  • Police were called to 5th Street at 1:20 am. Various callers reported men fighting in the street, a man threatening to shoot another man, and a man on the front porch with a rifle.
  • Officers detained a man and called Child Protective Services.

Drunk In The Lobby

Sunday

Officers got a 3 am call about a drunk man in a Harley hat staggering around the lobby of the Holiday Inn on 2nd Street.

It turned out he was with a group of out-of-town motorcycle riders. Police found the room he was supposed to be staying in and left him in the care of a sober friend.

Dude! Where’s My Car?

Sunday

At 6:27 am, a man called report his Dodge Charger stolen from Vinton Avenue.

He said it vanished sometime after 3 am.  He thinks he might have left his keys in the lock of the front door and that’s where the thief got the car keys.

Turns out the registration for the vehicle expired in 2016.

Rose Bush Theft

Sunday

Not only will thieve steal anything that isn’t nailed down. It turns out they don’t mind digging things up. A 6th Street woman reported that someone dug up all of her rose bushes overnight. The estimated value of the plants is $60.

OD and Drugs

Sunday

At 10:17 am, police were called to Alexandria House for a report of a woman passed out in a vehicle and barely breathing. She said the had snorted heroin prior to arriving. The woman refused medical help.

Monday

Police were called to the Royal Inn at 9:30 pm. A woman reported her boyfriend was inside a room with a drug dealer.

Protective Pup

Sunday

Officers uncovered a sad situation on 6th Street at 10:30 am. An elderly woman in poor health was terribly confused.

Officers said the house smelled terrible. The poor lady thought there were people in her house inside boxes and also in her picture frames.

Complicating matters, she has a very large dog that is very protective of her.

Sunday

  • Police were called to Pat’s Café at 12:32 pm for a report of a very angry customer.
  • The man, who brought his dog along with him, broke a glass after he was asked to leave.
  • He accused the bartender of sleeping with his wife.
  • They found the man in the alley behind the building. He’d hurt himself after falling.
  • While the man refused help, he did left police call him a cab.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

Sunday

Just before 2 pm, police were called to a home on Summit Street for a family disturbance. A woman was allegedly ‘acting crazy,” broke a window, and had a knife. Police separated the parties and advised them to call again if things get violent.

Monday

A lover’s quarrel brought police to the Royal Inn just before 10 am. Police separated them.

Suspicious Minds

Sunday

  • At 3 pm, officers responded to Thomas Avenue for a report of a man throwing trash from trashcans. Additionally, he stole a child’s scooter.
  • Just before 5:30 pm, A Robinson Avenue resident reported a man passed out on their front porch. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Where’s My Stuff?

Sunday

A woman called police at 6 pm to report a stolen iPad. She was able to track the location via her iPhone. The tablet was currently in Pike County traveling north on 23. Officers took a report.

Monday

  • Just before 2 am, a woman called to report that her ex-boyfriend had stolen her phone.
  • At 4 pm, a caller reported they’d pinged their stolen iPhone at a 4th Street address. Police took information for a report.

Bird Burglar

  • At 6:07 pm, police were called to Timmonds Avenue for a report of a burglary in process. It turned out to be a bird in the basement that kept smacking into the window.
  • The landlord didn’t want officers to break in, so they checked the doors and windows and left.

ODs and Drugs

Sunday

  • Officers were called to Wayne Avenue at 7:51 pm for a report of an OD. Medics were able to revive the man.
  • At 8:41, police answered a report of an OD in a camper on 5th Street. The man refused help.

Monday

  • Police were called to 7th Street for a report of an OD at 3:44 am. After being treated by the fire department, the subject refused to go to the hospital.
  • An employee cleaning the parking lot at Taco Bell found a blue baggie that appeared to contain drugs. Police impounded it.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Monday

A woman refused to leave the Speedway on Gallia at 5:20 am on Monday. Clerks said they’ve had to kick her out a number of times. She was gone when police arrived.

Pup In Danger

Monday

Animal Control was closed on Monday. That left officers without assistance when a Gallia Street woman reported a pitbull/boxer mix on her porch. She said the dog was friendly enough but she was concerned about taking her dogs out.

The woman said she would try to find the owner. She planned to contact a rescue or animal control on Tuesday.

Pedestrian Struck

Monday

  • Just after 9 pm, a pedestrian was hit at 17th Street and Thomas Avenue.
  • The vehicle was described as a white 4-door.
  • PMHA security cameras did not capture the crash.
  • The victim was taken to SOMC.
