A report of a missing purse packed with sensitive items had deputies responding to a Lucasville residence—and briefly raised concerns about potential identity theft.
Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies were called after a woman reported her purse had been taken while she was unloading items from her van into her mother’s apartment at Stoney Creek.
She told deputies she had left the sliding door of her van open while carrying items inside. When she returned, her purse was gone.
Inside were several important items, including her wallet, debit and credit cards, and a Social Security card.
With no suspects and no immediate leads, the situation appeared to be a straightforward theft.
But later that day, the woman contacted authorities again with an update.
The purse hadn’t been stolen.
She had accidentally left it behind at a funeral home.
No crime occurred—but the situation serves as a reminder that even in stressful moments, it’s always best to double-check before assuming the worst.
