An out-of-town rehab patient found herself trapped in the area with no way to get home.
Multiple drivers called 911 around 4 pm to report a woman walking down US 52 near Shawnee Marina. They said the woman kept walking into traffic and attempting to flag down cars.
When officers caught up with her, she told them she’d just left a drug treatment center and was trying to walk home to Cincinnati. Officers offered to help her find another rehab facility or take her to a homeless shelter, but she refused.
She told them the rehab center refused to help her get home and that she had no phone, money, or anyone to contact to help get her home. All she wanted was to get back to Cincinnati. Deputies advised her it was illegal to hitchhike, and she said she wouldn’t try to flag down cars.
Deputies encountered another woman in need of help at 5:30 pm after she walked into Weaver’s in Nile Township and asked employees to call a cop because she needed to talk to someone.
Deputies transported the woman to a local rehab facility, where she was accepted for treatment.
