Scioto County Special Victims Unit Nabs Alleged Child Rapist
David Thoroughman, Scioto County Sheriff, stated that Scioto County Children Services contacted his office on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, to inform them that a child had been sexually assaulted.
Detectives from the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit worked together on the case. Based on this investigation, Detectives determined that the victim was 8 years old when these assaults occurred.
Additionally, several small children still lived at the residence. The suspect was located at 126 Maplewood Ave in Lucasville by detectives and Scioto County Children Services.
The detectives also discovered that a female inside the house had a protection order against the suspect.
John W Smith, 40, of 126 Maplewood Ave in Lucasville, was arrested. The charges against Smith include two counts of rape, a felony of the first degree, and one count of violation of a protection order, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
Smith has 2 previous arrests for domestic violence.
Smith is currently being held without a bond. The investigation is still ongoing, and there may be more victims and additional charges filed in the future.
A joint effort between Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Scioto County Children Services, and Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit led to a quick arrest.
