Someone fires shots into a 16th Street Apartment and the owner of an animal seized after it bit a child caused a fuss at the Health Department. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily briefing.
Man on Probation Busted After Gun Report
Just after noon, a witness reported a man walking around in the street on Robinson Avenue waving a gun.
Officers took a man into custody and discovered he had an open warrant for probation violation. They took him to the Scioto County Jail.
Impatient Man Crashes at Urgent Care
A man upset over the length of the wait for a COVID test at the SOMC Urgent Care on Kinneys Lane crashed into the awning and scratched it as he left the property but didn’t stop.
Since the crash was on private property, officers did not make a report.
Owner of Seized Dog Demands Answers
The owner of a dog seized after it bit a little girl showed up at the Health Department in a bad mood.
Health Department employees said he was angry about Animal Control seizing the animals and refused to leave the building.
An officer advised him to leave the building or face a trespass report. The man attempted to argue the point several times but finally left.
Employees had concerns he might return, so an officer remained in the area for a few minutes to make sure he didn’t come back.
Under the Influence
A Broadway caller reported a man and a woman who appeared to be on drugs wandering around Broadway. Police checked the area but could not locate him.
Walnut Street witnesses reported a tattooed older man going door to door asking for someone. They said the man appeared to be high. The man left before officers arrived.
Police responded to 2nd Street for a report of an overdose. By the time officers arrived, the woman’s girlfriend had already given her a dose of Narcan to revive her. Medics spoke with the victim, but she refused medical treatment.
Suspicious Activity
Officer responded to Gallia Street for a report of a suspicious man hanging around an ATM for half an hour and not allowing others to use the device. He left before officers arrived.
Suspects at the Shooting Range
At 9:30 pm, officers responded to reports of suspicious individuals and shots fired near the police shooting range.
Officers detained a woman with an open warrant. They also arranged for a tow truck to pull a vehicle out of the mud and sent another person on their way.
Shots Fired on 16th Street
Just before midnight, a caller told police someone had come by and shot out the windows of his 16th Street apartment.
The caller did not know if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle. No one was injured. Officers took information for a report.
Around 4 am, the victim called back and reported someone whistling in their windows. Police were unable to locate the person.
