Shortly after 11:30 pm, Portsmouth Police were dispatched to 1101 Gallia Street for a report of an attempted armed robbery.
The owner of Assorted Treasures said two masked men dressed in black attempted to rob the store. The caller stated gunfire was exchanged.
According to the caller, one of the suspects fell to the ground and appeared to have been struck by the shots.
A few minutes later, another caller advised that both suspects were in the homeless camp, aka Tent City, located behind Bob & Floyd’s Tires.
Units from New Boston Police and the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department responded to Bob & Floyd’s to assist PPD. Portsmouth Fire and EMS were staged nearby. Shawnee State University Police were also dispatched to the store and asked to preserve the scene while authorities conducted their search.
Police located the suspect who was shot. He was first transported to SOMC and then transferred to another hospital for further treatment.
Officers then advised they had the 2nd subject who, apparently, was not injured.
Several items were impounded, and detectives continued the investigation. At this time, no names have been released.
