Teen Gunned Down and DOA’s In Portsmouth
Portsmouth, Ohio Police and EMS had a very busy few hours on Thursday evening. Investigations are ongoing with these cases and we hope to obtain more information from our Daily Cheif’s Briefing today. Here’s what we have learned so far.
Report of DOA on Findlay near the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department. The original callout mentioned 1 possible DOA. When officers finally cleared the scene, the radio traffic mentioned 2 deaths. We will be looking into this case with authorities today.
Nearly immediately after the cryptic radio transmission referring to the possibility of 2 DOA’s, an urgent call came out about a teenager being shot on Union Street. Officers quickly responded to the area and found that the victim was actually near the Spectrum Cable office. EMS staged near the Spectrum Cable office until police could verify the scene was safe for them to approach.
The victim was said to be a 17-year-old male. Officials on the scene stated there were possibly multiple shots, including into the abdomen.
Medics on the scene requested the life flight helicopter. Due to poor weather conditions, neither of the two air evac services were flying. So, the victim was transported to SOMC and then on to a Huntington, WV trauma unit. The condition of the young man is unknown at this time. A possible suspect or suspects have not been named. It has been reported that the victim was not, originally, cooperating with initial questioning.
As Medics were trying to get a life flight and arrange transportation for the shooting victim, another call for a DOA came out.
Police and EMS were, again, quick to respond to this new call on Kendall/Wayne Ave. One of the officers stated that the traffic in the tight and narrow street was heavy and was having difficulty responding. Other officers were already on scene and gave their location in case the remaining responders needed to approach on foot.
We will update later today as more official details become available.
