Thieves are willing to take anything that isn’t nailed down and even some things that are, including the locks from your doors.
A wildlife photography enthusiast learned that lesson the hard way when they pulled over on Sedan Crabtree Road to take pictures of some wild turkeys in the woods.
When they returned from taking pictures, they learned someone had stolen their red Chevy Blazer. Officers took information for a report.
At 8 p.m., a Davis Road resident contacted deputies to report someone had stolen her mailbox. She said it was there when she left to run errands, but missing when she got back. A deputy observed some pieces of wood, but no sign of the mailbox. They suspected someone hit the mailbox and took the evidence with them.
At 10 p.m., a Riverview Avenue resident reported that someone stole the door locks from her home. She said the door knobs were still there, but all of the locks were missing.
More Vehicle Break-Ins Reported
Portsmouth Police Officers have received dozens of reports of vehicle break-ins over the past couple of weeks, and the incidents continue.
Just after 8 p.m., a 6th Street resident reported someone broke into their car and stole multiple items.
At 9 p.m., a 9th Street resident spotted a suspect attempting to break into their Jeep, but they interrupted the man and he fled the area. Officers searched for the guy, but couldn’t locate him.
Just before 6 p.m., a caller reported someone broke into a vehicle at Portsmouth High School and stole a backpack.
