A report of a possible toddler overdose at Southern Ohio Medical Center sent deputies rushing to track down what happened—and who was responsible.
Officers were called to the ER after concerns were raised that a young child may have been exposed to drugs.
Deputies then responded to the apartment where the child lived. A woman at the residence gave officers permission to enter and search for the child’s mother.
As the investigation unfolded, another woman returned to the hospital, where officers read her Miranda rights.
Deputies also located the child’s mother and transported her to the hospital.
During the investigation, police took Randi Jordan into custody.
She was arrested on charges of possession of drugs, possession of criminal tools, and tampering with evidence, and booked into the Scioto County Jail.
Jordan later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where a preliminary hearing was set for April 9.
Court records show she has prior arrests including escape, drug instruments, and disorderly conduct.
The condition of the child has not been released.
