A $1 million bond has been set for a man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor, according to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said a detective was contacted on Saturday, January 31, 2026, after a mother reported that her 14-year-old child disclosed being sexually assaulted.
Deputies and detectives responded to the residence and launched an investigation. Authorities say that investigation revealed the alleged sexual assaults began when the victim was 13 years old and occurred multiple times.
Following the investigation, Derek Ray Stanley, 36, of Otway, was transported to the sheriff’s office for an interview and then taken into custody.

Stanley has been charged with ten counts of rape, all first-degree felonies. He is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Ongoing Investigation
Sheriff Thoroughman emphasized that the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact Detective John Cart at 740-354-7327.
Because the alleged victim is a minor, authorities are not releasing additional details at this time.
