30 Dogs Inside Trashed Portsmouth House

Portsmouth, Ohio Police discovered 30 dogs inside a ‘trashed’ home. They also handled a COVID test that turned violent, a DOA, and a daycare that called police when an autistic child acted up. We break it all down. A busy day for PPD in these next 13 slides.

Messing Around On Mabert Road

A caller reported some suspicious activity on Mabert Road at 1:20 am. A car was parked on the street,, playing loud music, and some people were ‘messing around.’

When police arrived on the scene, they discovered one of the people had an active warrant. Police arrested the suspect and impounded the vehicle.

Give Me Back My Stuff

A woman called police to the auxiliary homeless shelter just before 2 am for help in retrieving some property from a home on 17th Street. Officers said there was no answer at that address.

The woman’s brother said it was okay if she stayed with him. Officers took her to his home on Mabert Road.

DOA

Officers answered a call to Walnut Street at 2:22 am for a report of a dead body. A woman told officers she came into the home and found her boyfriend dead.

Police contacted the coroner and removed the man from the missing person’s list. A unit headed to South Webster to notify his mother. Officers impounded a phone and suspected drugs on the scene.

Under The Influence

  • Just after 7 am, Speedway on Gallia notified police of a man passed out in front of their fountain pop machine. Officers discovered he had a warrant and took him into custody.
  • Multiple callers reported a drunk driver in a red truck at 17th and Grandview just after 5 pm. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two homeless women in the vehicle. Police said they did not appear to be intoxicated.

Child Needs Help

Police were called to a Gallia Street daycare just before 8 am for a report of an 11-year-old autistic boy out of control. The caller said the mother could not control the child.

Officers said the boy calmed down and went home with his mother.

30 Dogs Discovered In Residence

Officers discovered 30 dogs in a Poplar Street home after answering a disturbance call at 9:44 am. Neighbors called police to report a man going door-to-door with a club threatening his neighbors.

Police contacted an ambulance, hoping to have the man evaluated for mental health issues. The man admitted he was drinking but did not want to go to the hospital. While he seemed coherent enough to care for himself, officers said the home was ‘completely trashed’ with around 30 dogs inside and non-working utilities.

The health department arrived on the scene and gave the man two days to clean things up and get the utilities working again.  He refused medical help but was cautioned that if he caused another disturbance, he would be arrested.

Not Welcome

Just before 10 am, a Richland County Probation Officer asked police to check a local rehab facility for a suspect.

The facility refused to confirm or deny the man was there and refused to grant the police access, citing privacy regulations.

Hey, That’s My Stuff

  • A Hudson House residence called police at 9:57 am to report his daughter for stealing cash from him. Officers took information for a report.
  • Just before 10 am, a caller reported two phones missing from a local treatment center. The caller put down an iPhone and a Tracphone in the bathroom. When they returned to look for it later, they were missing.
  • At 6 pm, a Chillicothe Street resident reported missing drugs. Police dropped off a theft-of-medication form.

Gun Left Behind

Enterprise Rent A Car called police at 10:51 am to report a gun left behind in a returned rental car. Officers impounded the weapon and notified the guy who rented the car.

He picked the gun up at the police station.

COVID Test Turns Violent

A pre-operative COVID test got out of hand at the SOMC Urgent Care on Kinneys Lane at 11 am. A man was in for a pre-surgery COVID test. When the nurse put the swab into his nose, it hurt and he swung his arms around, nearly hitting the nurse.

The nurse said she didn’t believe it was on purpose, but he did nearly hit her. Officers advised him to stay still during his COVID test.

Private Eyes

A woman called the police at 11 am to report her ex-husband is stalking her. She claimed he hired to private investigators to follow her and placed a tracker on her car.

Officers advised her on how to file an anti-stalking order.

Back at The Dollar General

A Dollar General superfan, who has been barred from the property was back in the Harding Avenue store. A clerk reported he took items into the bathroom.

He later bought the items. Officers tracked him down and explained that he was barred from the property.

Violent Shenanigans

At 9:54 pm officers responded to JJ Shenanigans for a report of a fight. A man hit the bartender and multiple women in the bar. Officers took information for a report.
