Margaret Marie Gordley, 93, of Portsmouth, OH, passed away on Thursday, April 16, at her home at the Hill View Retirement Community. She was born in Oak Hill, OH, on January 13, 1933, to the late Reverend Clyde Albert & Minnie Sheets Walter, both of whom predeceased her in death. Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald Wayne Gordley, who passed away September 25, 2004, a brother, Richard W. Walter; her sister, Elizabeth Spires; and her niece, Sherry Layne.
She is survived by her nephews, Rick Walter, Rodger Walter, Robert Allen, and a very dear friend, David Green, of Lucasville, Ohio.
Margaret was a 1951 graduate of Portsmouth East High School. She was the Scioto County Treasurer for 20 years, where she met many people and made many lasting friendships.
Margaret enjoyed playing the organ and piano, crocheting, reading, and taking her many cruises on the Mississippi Queen and the American Queen River boats. She was active in many organizations, including Business and Professional Women, Lucasville Order of the Eastern Star, the League of Women Voters,
She was also a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, Cornerstone Church of Portsmouth, and the Holmes Club.
At her request, private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at Greenlawn Cemetery.
In place of flowers, memorials may be sent to Cornerstone Church of Portsmouth or SOMC Hospice.
