Carl “Hoss” Pertuset, of Lucasville, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. He was born on February 8, 1962, to the late Francis “Frank” Pertuset and Janet Cox Pertuset.
On May 16, 1981, he was united in marriage to Vera Flanagan Pertuset. In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by his children, Jake (Jenny) Pertuset of McDermott and Valerie Parsley of Ft. Gay, West Virginia; grandchildren, Carleigh, Jacob, Lincoln, and Sadie; siblings, James (Marsha) Pertuset of Portsmouth and Tammy (Mark) Behr of San Antonio, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Carl was a 1980 graduate of Northwest High School and the Scioto County Joint Vocational School. He was a lifelong logger and farmer, receiving the Logger of the Year award in 1993 and Farmer of the Year in 2004. A second-generation logger, Carl was a charter member of the Southern Ohio Loggers Chapter and also served as a former Ohio Forestry Association board member. He was a longtime member of the Scioto County Agricultural Society and Bethany Baptist Church.
Carl loved the outdoors, whether he was working alongside his son or enjoying one of his favorite pastimes—dirt track racing. He raced at Southern Ohio Speedway and was the 1988 track champion. Above all else, Carl enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He loved his family and friends deeply and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
