A structure fire in Otway quickly turned into a much bigger emergency after callers reported possible arson, gunfire, and threats.
Scioto County sheriff’s deputies were called after a report of a structure fire that dispatchers were told might have been intentionally set.
Then came another concern: a man was reportedly shooting a gun.
Multiple fire departments were called in, including Union, Otway, Rush, Morgan, and Valley. EMS also responded.
Because of the arson allegation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to investigate.
Deputies also received information that threats had been made.
Search Spreads Beyond the Fire Scene
While firefighters worked the scene, deputies began trying to locate the man connected to the call.
At one point, authorities said his location appeared to be pinging in Kentucky, prompting a BOLO to Kentucky State Police.
The State Fire Marshal eventually arrived and took over the fire scene.
Deputies later arrested Daniel Kleinke on a charge of domestic violence.
A protection order was issued.
Kleinke appeared in court, where the judge ordered him held in jail under bond pending a pretrial hearing.
The available report does not say whether he was charged with arson or any firearm offense.
So the call that began with a burning structure and reports of gunfire ultimately produced a domestic violence arrest, while the fire itself was left in the hands of state investigators.
The charge is an allegation, and Kleinke is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
