A late-night call to Portsmouth police sounded more like the opening scene of a thriller than a routine police report.
Just after 2 a.m., dispatchers received a request involving a Greyhound passenger, three vehicles, and concerns that someone onboard a bus was being followed across state lines.
🚌 A PASSENGER FEARS SOMEONE IS FOLLOWING HER
According to the report, a Greyhound representative contacted Portsmouth police regarding Bus 285, a white Barron Bus Lines motorcoach traveling from Ashland, Kentucky, toward its next scheduled stop.
The caller said a female passenger believed three vehicles were following the bus and attempting to make contact with her.
Authorities were told the passenger was concerned the occupants of the vehicles might confront her when the bus stopped in Portsmouth.
The bus was expected to arrive at the Speedway gas station around 2:35 a.m.
Greyhound requested police presence until the bus departed again.
🚔 KENTUCKY AUTHORITIES ALREADY INVOLVED
Portsmouth officers quickly began contacting law enforcement agencies across the river.
The Kentucky State Police advised they believed the woman had already spoken with officers in Ashland.
Police then contacted Boyd County dispatch, where officials confirmed officers had spoken with a female passenger but had little identifying information available.
At that point, Portsmouth officers knew only that a woman on the bus believed she was being followed.
👀 THREE VEHICLES IDENTIFIED
The vehicles reportedly involved included:
- A white GMC Acadia with a Kentucky temporary tag
- A silver Ford Maverick
- A gray Dodge Ram 1500
Officers remained alert as the bus approached Portsmouth.
❓ MYSTERY DEEPENS AT SPEEDWAY
When the bus arrived, officers began checking vehicles pointed out by the passenger.
One vehicle of interest was a white Jeep parked at the Speedway.
Police contacted the driver and quickly discovered he was a DoorDash driver making deliveries and had nothing to do with the situation.

After officers investigated the concerns, the bus continued on its route without incident.
No arrests were made.
No confrontation occurred.
And police never confirmed that any of the reported vehicles were actually following the passenger.
