Vera Ann Potter Isaac, 62, of Piketon, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at SOMC Hospice Center following an extended illness. She was born on December 19, 1963 in Fort Benning, Georgia, a daughter of the late Frank and Hazel Maxine Montgomery Potter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter Hadlee Rae Thompson; her grandparents Frank and Ella Potter and Lawrence and Ethel Montgomery; her in-laws Sherlie and Mildred Isaac; four brothers Ben, FH, Chuck, and Lonnie Potter; two sisters Suprenia McKittrick and Iva Wireman; and a dear friend Carolyn Gordon.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Carlos Isaac, whom she married on June 10, 1988; one daughter and son-in-law Megan and Trever Thompson; two grandchildren whom she absolutely adored, Zander and Harper Thompson; and many extended family and friends.
Vera graduated from Greenup County High School in 1981. She attended Berea College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 1986. Vera initially began working as an RN at the University of Kentucky Hospital, but later transferred closer to home, where she spent over 37 years working on the behavioral medicine unit at KDMC. Known for her dedication, hard work, knowledge, and compassion she was an exemplary nurse to the patients she cared for and was respected by her co-workers.
While Vera took much pride in her family and career, her greatest love and passion was serving the Lord and being the hands and feet of Jesus here on Earth. Vera was a faithful member of Beech Fork Church where she previously taught Sunday School and served in the card ministry, providing encouragement to those within her church, their extended families, and the community. This was not a calling she took lightly. With each card, Vera fervently prayed for that person and that God would give her the right words to say. With the progression of her medical conditions, and after much prayer, she resigned from this position. However, during her last few months on this Earth that calling returned and was stronger than ever. Despite her illnesses, Vera began sending cards to her church family again. She wanted to make sure that those she cared for knew they were loved and were being covered in prayer.
Vera’s faith in God and His power never wavered; instead she clung to Him and stood on His promises.
Now she has her ultimate healing, and is at perfect peace, worshipping her Lord and Savior in heaven for all of eternity. As 2 Timothy 4:7 indicates, Vera fought the good fight, kept the faith, and has now finished her race.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Beech Fork Church in Otway with Pastor Tom Brown and Trever Thompson officiating. A presentation by the Nurse’s Honor Guard will precede the funeral. Burial will follow in Setty Cemetery on Mt. Unger Rd. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 24th at the church and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
