Detroit Drug Boss Gets 30 Years After Scioto County Busts Rental-Car Pipeline

A Detroit drug trafficker accused of running an interstate fentanyl pipeline through Southern Ohio is heading to prison for 30 to 35.5 years.

Scioto County Prosecuting Attorney Shane A. Tieman announced that Anton Glynn Miles, 36, of Detroit, pleaded guilty in Scioto County Common Pleas Court to 16 felony offenses, including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound with Major Drug Offender specifications, and possessing criminal tools.

Prosecutors said Miles was not just carrying drugs.

They said he was running the operation.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Miles directed a supply network out of Detroit that moved bulk fentanyl and heroin through Southern Ohio into Northern Kentucky and Huntington, West Virginia. Evidence also suggested connections to Indianapolis and Chicago.

The scheme depended heavily on rental cars.

Prosecutors said Miles used commercial rental fleets and car-sharing platforms to move narcotics across state lines while trying to avoid detection. Records from Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Lyft, and Turo showed Miles rented vehicles in Michigan, added drug couriers as authorized drivers, or financed rentals under other people’s names.

Those vehicles became part of the case, leading to multiple counts of possessing criminal tools.

The investigation centered on three major traffic stops on State Route 823 by Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Lewis, a 20-year veteran assigned to District 9 Criminal Patrol.

On Jan. 12, 2022, Trooper Lewis stopped a 2021 Ford Escape driven by a 22-year-old female courier. Prosecutors said rental records later showed Miles had rented the vehicle in Michigan two days earlier and added the woman as an authorized driver.

A search uncovered a magnetic concealment box zip-tied under the vehicle near the exhaust. Inside, troopers found approximately 600 grams of fentanyl.

Prosecutors said evidence showed drug trips had been happening monthly, and sometimes twice a month, since at least July 2021.

On April 22, 2022, Lewis stopped a 2020 Nissan Rogue rented out of Livonia, Michigan, occupied by two female co-conspirators. After an Ohio State Highway Patrol drug dog alerted, troopers found approximately 405 grams of fentanyl hidden inside a bag of clothing on the rear seat.

Prosecutors said evidence showed at least two additional trips had happened before that stop.

Then came the Aug. 15, 2022 stop.

Trooper Lewis spotted two vehicles traveling together: a van driven by a male Detroit Lyft driver and a rental Chevrolet Suburban driven by Miles.

When Lewis signaled both vehicles to stop, prosecutors said Miles briefly pulled over, then sped away.

Lewis pursued and stopped Miles. Meanwhile, Trooper Anthony Day and his K9 partner searched the Lyft vehicle and recovered approximately 237 grams of narcotics packaged inside a Folgers coffee container and covered in gear grease.

Prosecutors said the Lyft driver was being paid $500 per trip by Miles to transport narcotics from Michigan. Evidence also indicated Miles called the driver during the stop and told him to flee.

After those three major seizures, prosecutors said Miles changed routes, moving the operation from Detroit to Indianapolis to Northern Kentucky to avoid Trooper Lewis.

But investigators kept building the case.

The Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office brought in the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force after the August 2022 stop. Prosecutors said it took about three years to gather the evidence needed to show Miles was the key figure behind the drug pipeline.

A Scioto County Grand Jury returned a 34-count indictment in August 2025.

Miles then became a fugitive.

Detectives with the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force tracked him through multiple states and jurisdictions. Surveillance followed him from Detroit to Chicago, back through Indianapolis, and south toward Kentucky in a 2024 Toyota Camry rented from Enterprise in Royal Oak, Michigan.

On Nov. 2, 2025, the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force and Kentucky law enforcement located the rental Camry at a known narcotics location in Grayson, Kentucky.

Officers stopped a vehicle leaving the residence and arrested Miles and local distributor Craig Heath Horton on active felony warrants.

During the arrest and search of the Grayson residence, law enforcement recovered a rifle, seized keys to Miles’ rental vehicle, and confiscated more than 1,000 grams of suspected fentanyl and cutting agents that prosecutors said Miles had just delivered.

Under the plea agreement, Miles received an agreed prison sentence of 30 to 35.5 years in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Prosecutors said 18 years of the sentence are mandatory, and Miles will not be eligible for first release until he has served at least 24 years.

The sentence is one of the most significant drug trafficking sentences imposed in Scioto County history.

It also marks the third major drug trafficking sentence secured by the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office in as many weeks.

The message from prosecutors is clear: out-of-town drug traffickers may use rental cars, fake routes, couriers, ride-share drivers, hidden boxes, grease-covered containers, and interstate networks.

But Scioto County is still bringing the hammer down.

The prosecutor’s office credited the Ohio State Highway Patrol, District 9 Criminal Patrol, Trooper Lewis, the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, Portsmouth Police Department, Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Grayson Police Department, Raceland Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Indiana State Police, DEA, and FBI Task Forces.

The case shows how a traffic stop on State Route 823 can turn into the unraveling of a Detroit drug pipeline.

For dealers, Southern Ohio may look like a route.

For prosecutors, it is a place to make a case.

And for Miles, it means decades in prison.
