PPD – Take Me Home Tonight

Portsmouth Officers took several people in a bad spot home on Wednesday plus dealt with a number of stolen cars. We break down the highlights.  If you’d like the unfiltered police reports, become an SCDN VIP. Click here to learn how.

Against Her Will

Officers answered a call to a room the Royal Inn on Kendall Avenue at one minute after midnight. A man told PPD he feared his mother-in-law was in grave danger. He claimed a man had beaten her and forced her to stay at the hotel.

When police arrived they spoke to the female occupant of the room. They observed no sign of violence or kidnapping. The woman did report someone hit her door earlier but she told them to leave.

False Alarm

  • An alarm sounded at the Sunoco on Gallia just before 6 am. An employee set the alarm off by mistake.
  • Police responded to a burglar alarm at the American Legion on Gallia just after 3 pm. When officers checked, everything looked secure.
  • A burglar alarm sounded on Kentland just after 4:30 pm. The resident informed police it was accidentally set off.

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

  • A caller told police someone damaged his vehicle during a break-in attempt on High Street, just after 8 am. Both the caller and his roommate’s vehicle were targeted. The roommate’s vehicle was stolen but later recovered at the Oasis Convenience Mart. He reported money missing from his vehicle. He was able to positively ID a suspect. Officers took a report.
  • Another report of damage to a vehicle just after 9 am. This time at the Star Adult Workshop on Gallia. Someone entered the vehicle and messed up the steering column during a theft attempt. Face masks, a sack, and a pocket knife were reported missing.
  • Portsmouth Ambulance reported the overnight theft of a wheelchair truck just after 10 am.
  • A woman called police at 11 am to report her boyfriend took her rental car without permission. He picked her up later and the two scuffed over the keys. She said he slammed her head into the seat. She didn’t want to press charges and said she would attempt to get the car back on her own.
  • A man claimed his child’s mother assaulted him and stole his phone. Officer spoke to both parties just after 4 pm. They agreed to meet and exchange the phone in the presence of an officer. No charges were filed.

Under The Influence

  • A caller reported a man jumping and screaming on 17th Street just after 4 am. An ambulance transported him to the hospital for treatment.
  • A caller reported a shirtless man flopping around on the ground on 17th Street just before 5 pm. Police took him into custody. An ambulance then transported him to the hospital.
  • Police responded to a report of an overdose on Mabert Road at 5:30 pm. The woman was alert by the time police arrived and refused medical help.
  • Officer responded to a report of an apparently high man at 13th and Union Street. He was taken to a friend’s home.
  • A deputy reported a man apparently under the influence on 16th Street. It turned out to be a fellow PPD officers have contact with nearly every day. Usually, they send him home. However, he appeared to have injured his arm, so a squad was requested.
  • A caller reported a woman sitting on Robinson Avenue who appeared to be “messed up” on something just before 11 pm. Police transported her to a friend’s residence at the Woodbine Apartments.
  • At 11:11 pm, police checked out a report of a man lying on the sidewalk on Kendall Avenue. They took him to his mother’s High Street home.

Full House

  • A caller reported two people crawling through the window of a vacant Harding Avenue house just after 6 pm. Officers discovered the window was open but no one was inside. They re-secured the window as best they could
  • Half an hour later, officers received a similar report from 6th Street. Police found the doors and windows of the vacant house were open and unsecured. Police said this has happened frequently at the address.

Treasure Hunting

A caller reported a man digging in the parking lot behind the Party Time bar just after 9 pm. Police said he was just digging for treasures. Bar management gave the okay for him to be there.

Can’t We All Just Get Along?

  • Police answered a complaint of two women fighting n a driveway on Milldale just before 10 pm. One of the women had a warrant. Police gave her a copy and let her go.
  • At 9:43 pm, a woman called 911 to report an attack. When police arrived she said she got into a mutual fight with her boyfriend’s sister. She did not want to press charges.

Family Feud

PPD Officers capped off their Wednesday with a family free-for-all on 6th Street. Officers initially responded to a report of a domestic incident with a child present.

Officers were originally told that a man was armed but that story changed to the man having access to weapons.

When police arrived, they learned that a man claimed another man punched his wife on the porch. He went after the man. That’s when the man’s aunt jumped on his back and began to punch him. However, the aunt said the man barged into the house and punched her in the face.

Police advised all involved about obtaining a protective order. Two of the parties involved left the area.
