Another local school is dealing with marijuana and vaping after officials discovered suspected pot, a vape and a pipe involving a 14-year-old student.
And this isn’t an isolated incident.
SCDN has reported on several recent cases involving students and marijuana or vapes at schools in both Lawrence and Scioto counties.
In this latest case, a Lawrence County deputy responded after school officials reported finding suspected marijuana along with a marijuana vape and pipe during an investigation involving a student.
The items were turned over to the deputy as evidence. The deputy also spoke with the student and school officials about what happened.
Because the student is a minor, SCDN is not identifying them.
Vapes Keep Turning Up at School
In another Lawrence County case, a tip from a student led to the discovery of two vapes at South Point Middle School, including one identified as a THC vape. Three students ultimately faced charges related to marijuana paraphernalia on school grounds.
At South Point High School, a vape detector has also helped school officials track down a student with a vape pen.
Across the county line, SCDN has reported similar problems in Scioto County. One middle-school vape detector caught a student with THC at school, while another incident became a medical emergency after a high school student reportedly consumed two marijuana edibles and became so ill that EMS transported her to the hospital.
The individual circumstances are different, but the reports point to the same challenge for local schools: marijuana products and small, easily concealed vaping devices continue to make their way into the hands of students.
