IMAP: Ohio’s Low-Income Job Training Program
2020 has been a difficult year for many Ohioans. According to recent data, the state’s unemployment rate is close to double what it was a year ago, but for those financially struggling during this time, the state government has devised a program that may help acquire the skills needed for a job.
This program is known as the Individual Microcredential Assistance Program (IMAP) and is designed to provide low-income and/or unemployed Ohioans with free training in specific skills that may be helpful in finding a job.
Some of these programs include website design, google analytics training, and data analytics courses. These skills are highly useful in the workforce and could help strengthen the resumes of these struggling Ohio citizens.
The other great thing about these programs is while some are designed to be taught in-person, most have an online option that allows qualifying members to partake in the course within their own timeframe. Most courses are also fairly short, typically ranging from between 8 hours of training to 40 hours.
The three qualifications listed to qualify for this program are: must be an Ohio resident; must be low-income, partially or totally unemployed; and must have an active email account. The Ohio website also clarifies that most of the training programs are focused on technology-based skills, which are highly coveted in an ever-increasing digital workforce.
This program may not be for everyone, but it certainly can provide struggling Ohioans with skills and abilities that can help them land on their feet during these tumultuous times.
