Four families called the cops on teens gone wild in four separate incidents. But those weren’t the only domestic disturbances police attended to. We break down the highlights of a day filled with family feuds in the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Domestic Disturbances
- Just after midnight, a woman told police a man assaulted her and left the scene. Three units responded and took information for a report.
- At 1:04 am, a Thomas Avenue caller told police her ex-boyfriend was banging on her door. She said he threatened to damage her car. By the time police arrived, he was gone.
- Just before noon, police stood by as a man retrieved his items from an apartment and left the scene.
- Police answered a call to 17th Street at 1:52 pm for a report of a fight between a woman, her boyfriend, and her mother. The argument was over by the time police arrived.
- A domestic disturbance led to a crash at Gallia and Chesnut at 1:28 pm. A Walnut Street pair were arguing and the man took off in the vehicle. He crashed the car. His other half told police she no longer wanted him at the residence. Police advised him he faced criminal trespass charges if he returned.
- Police received a report of a burglary in progress on Thomas Avenue at 7:16 pm. It turned out to be a woman fighting with her ex-boyfriend. Police said the man is on the barred list from PMHA.
Parking Crackdown
Just before 2 am, a caller reported a vehicle parked in the handicapped space on Kent Street. Police arrived on the scene 45 minutes later and issued a citation.
Teens Gone Wild
- A Kendall Avenue teenager called the police after he said his mom kicked him out of the house. Police responded to the scene to speak with the mother. They advised the boy he needed to listen to his mom.
- At 3:36 pm, a Robinson Avenue mom complained to parents her teenage daughter refused to listen to her. She snuck out of the house and did not come home when directed. Police suggested she contact the girl’s probation officer.
- Police responded to another Robinson Avenue address at 6:35 to a report of an unruly 14-year-old girl. A man told police the girl hit him twice before leaving with her boyfriend. Officers took information for a report. The girl came back to the house at 8:30 pm and wanted relatives to let her in. They refused.
- Officers responded to a third call involving an unruly teenager on Robinson Avenue at 10:26 pm. This time a 17-year-old boy was throwing things in his room and threatened his mom. Police spoke to him.
Under The Influence
- Just before 5 pm, Gallia Street drivers reported a man with a guitar in traffic. He attempted to stop vehicles and jerked on their handles. Police caught up with him at the fire department. He said people were following him. He claimed not to be on drugs. Police suggested he go home and stay there.
- Officers responded to a report of an apparently high woman in front of Speedway at 5:21 pm. Police suggested she not hang out there. She said she would move along.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
- Just after 9:30 pm, The Dollar General on Harding reported a man stole a bag of items. Police took information for a report.
- A caller reported their bike stolen from Adli Foods at 7:50 pm. Officers took information for a report.
Fake Tags Lead To Arrest
A parking violation led to an arrest on Thomas Avenue. Police spotted a vehicle with fake tags at 9:35 pm.
They detained a man for possessing a stolen tag sticker and for possessing hypodermic syringes. Police issued two summonses and arranged for the vehicle to be towed.
Head Banging
Police responded to a report of a man hitting his wife on 11th Street just before 10 pm. Police took him into custody and noted he wouldn’t stop banging his head on the vehicle window.
