Man Airlifted After Accident At American Legion
A patient was airlifted after an accident at the American Legion and officers were inundated with calls about suspicious activity on the streets of Portsmouth. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- At 1:33 am, officers detained a man at Robinson and Franklin. They advised him of his rights and took him into custody
- Fifteen minutes later, they stopped a man in Tracy Park and advised him of the park’s hours.
- Police responded to a report of a suspicious person at 3rd and Washington at 2:20 am and ended up arresting a woman for drunk and disorderly conduct.
- At 2:27 am, a Sterling Avenue caller reported suspicious activity in a vehicle. Police discovered a woman sleeping in a vehicle and advised her to sleep inside.
- An hour later, a Thomas Avenue caller reported a woman attempting to break into a house. Officers discovered there was an open warrant for the woman and took her into custody.
- At 11 am, a Jackson Avenue caller reported an unknown man sitting on their front porch. Officers said the man seemed very confused. Police sent for an ambulance and spoke to the man.
Under The Influence
- At 11:42 am, a caller reported an apparently high shirtless man on 6th Street. Witnesses said the man was wandering around for some time. However, he seemed to come out of his state before police arrived.
- Officers responded to a report of an overdosed man at Valero Gas just before 3 pm. His friends assisted him on the scene and an ambulance transported him to the hospital.
- A witness reported a man lying on a bench near Kroger at 3:25 pm. Police advised him to move along.
- Officers responded to a report of a man staggering along Coles Blvd at 3:36 pm. An ambulance transported him to SOMC.
- Shortly before 5 pm, a caller reported an intoxicated man stumbling along Royce Street. Once again, an ambulance transported the subject to the hospital.
- At 5:52 pm, a Ruhlman Avenue caller reported a shirtless tattooed man acting as if he were on drugs. Police spoke to the man and discovered he had a ride on the way.
- At 11:37 pm, a Vinton Avenue caller reported a man jumping around, cussing, and hitting himself. Police took him into custody.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
- A woman contacted the police to report missing pills at 1:23 pm. She was discharged from SOMC after surgery and unsure if she left her meds at the hospital or in an ambulance. Police informed her that didn’t constitute medication theft.
- A woman found her stolen car in the back parking lot of the Woodbine apartments at 2:08 pm. Police released the vehicle to her and impounded a Gatorade bottle as evidence.
- A caller claimed her home health aid had stolen all of her medication while she was in the hospital just before 4 pm. Turned out the aide had hidden the meds under a blanket on the woman’s wheelchair to keep them safe until she was released from the hospital.
- At 6:28 pm, a caller reported a boat stolen from a Dewey Avenue home. Officers took information for a report.
- At 8:33 pm, a caller reported a man passed out on the steps of the Apostolic Church on Young Street. Officers detained the man.
Woman Threatens Neighbor With Knife
A Findlay Avenue caller reported his neighbor was banging her head on the wall and talking to herself. When he asked the woman to keep it down, she came at him with a knife.
An ambulance transported the woman to the hospital.
Helping The Homeless
Officers responded to Buffalo Wild Wings for a report of a man chasing a woman. He’d left the scene by the time they arrived, but they transported the woman to a homeless shelter for the night.
Man Airlifted After Accident at American Legion
EMS and police responded after a man hit his head at the American Legion Post on Court Street.
An ambulance transported him to the Air Evac Helipad.
Woman Accuses Neighbor of Abusing Dog
Just after 10 pm, a 5th Street caller told police she witnessed a neighbor abusing her dog. She claimed she saw the woman kick the animal and had a video of her abusing it.
The officer watched the video and saw no sign of animal abuse. The officer spoke to the dog’s owner who allowed the officer to look at the animal. Again, there was no sign of animal abuse. However, the officer planned to contact animal control to follow up.
