A man claimed he was attacked after hurling racial slurs at kids during a disagreement and a child walked into a hospital to report an attack by its father. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Man Attacked After Calling Kids Racial Slurs
A Vermont Avenue caller contacted police at 6:30 pm to report that neighborhood kids had threatened her animals and attacked her husband.
The husband told officers a boy put him in a headlock and attempted to harm him when he called them up for causing a disturbance in the alley. He admitted that he did use a racial slur and that the kids may have taken offense.
Police noted no visible injuries and the man refused medical treatment.
Pokemon No
At 8 pm, a caller reported that people at the Portsmouth Motorcycle Club on Front Street were yelling at someone playing Pokemon Go on the property. Offices advised all involved.
Frightening Burglary
A resident at the Woodbine Apartments reported a man in a Jason mask accompanied by a woman was attempting to break into her apartment.
She said there had been several break-in attempts recently. The subjects were gone by the time police arrived.
Child Reports Assault By Dad
Personnel at King’s Daughters Hospital reported that a 14-year-old child walked to the hospital from her home and reported they had been assaulted by their father.
Medical personnel said the child was indeed injured. Officers responded to the hospital and to the scene of the alleged assault.
Pit Bull Mauls Cat
At 10:12 pm, witnesses reported two aggressive pit bulls running loose in Wayne Hills. The animal mauled a cat.
Police contacted Animal Control and responded to the scene. Animal Control addressed the issue with the dogs’ owners.
Gun Reported on 7th Street
Just after midnight, a caller reported hearing subjects arguing in the alley and someone yelling something about a gun. Before police could respond, the witness called back and said the people had left the scene.
Under The Influence
A 17th Street caller reported someone passed out in a vehicle at 12:36 am. When officers took the man into custody, he put up quite a fight, headbutting the glass and kicking doors in the squad car.
Closing Time
Just before 2 am, an officer walked through the Party Time Bar, Richard Noggins, and Frank & Stein’s Lounge. All three bars were clear with no issues.
Crash Takes Out Power Pole
Just after 3 am, a vehicle hit a power pole on 4th Street. An officer took one person into custody and transported them to the OSP for a sobriety test.
Police arranged to have the vehicle towed.
