4 Modifications That Can Improve Your Vehicle's Gas Mileage
ShareTweetEmail

When most people think of car mods, the first thing that comes to mind is generally beefy souped-up engines and quick nitrous boosters. However, replacing factory-installed components with aftermarket parts can significantly enhance your fuel economy on top of engine performance. Continue reading to discover four modifications that can improve your vehicle’s gas mileage.

Grilles Are More Than Looks

While your car’s grille is one of the defining features of your vehicle’s looks, it can also provide significant performance boosts that make it worth swapping out. Look for grille blocks that help improve aerodynamics. The more you reduce your drag, the better your fuel economy will be.

Active grille shutters are also a trendy modification, especially on vehicles after 2015. When needed, these shutters enable air to pass through the radiator and into the engine compartment, cooling these components down. When no cooling is required, the shutters close, decreasing drag and boosting fuel economy.

Use Performance Suspension Kits

It should come as no surprise that the heavier your car is, the more gas it needs to drive. You should use lighter, streamlined suspension parts to replace heavy factory-issued suspension parts. When you do this, your engine doesn’t have to use as much energy to run.

Attach a Fuel Monitor

The more aggressive you drive, the more fuel you’ll consume. Getting actual data about how much your lead foot is costing you can help you change those gas-guzzling behaviors. Use fuel monitors, such as the ScanGuage, to give you real-time statistics on your vehicle’s instant and average gasoline efficiency, fuel consumed, cost of fuel for each trip, cost per mile, gallons per hour, and other metrics.

Swap Out Air Intake System

The air quality entering your engine compartment has a direct impact on its performance and fuel consumption. Manufacturers design their air intake systems to be quiet and unobtrusive to the ordinary customer, yet performance suffers as a result.

Replace factory-installed air intake systems with their high-flow cold air counterparts. You’re feeding cold, dense air directly to the engine this way. As a result, your engine’s power rises, and you save MPG.

You’ll likely see excellent results after implementing any of these four modifications that can improve your vehicle’s gas mileage. Investing just a little time and money can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in the long run.
