There is a suspect in custody in connection with the killing of Josh Reed, 17, on Wednesday.
In the early evening hours, at 4:49 pm, 911 dispatchers delivered devastating news to police, fire, and EMS. A child had been shot in the 1500 block of 9th Street.
The response was swift. Indeed, they found a deceased minor who appeared to have been shot.
In the immediate response, it was unclear whether he had shot himself or someone else had shot him.
Reports indicate that multiple shell casings may have been found in the room.
An adult female from the residence was taken for preliminary questioning regarding the incident.
Despite not being released officially, a possible suspect has been named.
Officers obtained consent to search a home on Franklin Ave exactly one hour after the first call rang out.
Blake Milar was named as a potential suspect very early in the investigation.
Antonio “Blake” Milar, 23, was discovered hiding in an abandoned and burned-out house at 1620 6th Street by Portsmouth Police.
Murder charges have been filed against Milar.
Milar was arrested on a Parole Violation on May 9th and served 6 days in jail. He’s previously been arrested for assault, unlawful sexual contact with a minor, and corruption of a minor.
He’s currently on parole for unlawful sexual contact with a minor.
