Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order banning gender transition surgery at any medical facility in the State of Ohio.
The Governor’s office issued a brief statement on the matter but didn’t go into much detail. This move comes after the governor refused to sign a bill banning gender treatment for minors and forbidding transgender youth from playing in girl’s high school sports.
At the time, Governor DeWine said he didn’t think it was the state’s business to be involved in decisions best left up to medical professionals and parents. He said he made the decision after consulting with top doctors at Ohio hospitals.
DeWine made the same argument for the high school sports bill, saying that he trusted Ohio high school sports officials to make the decision and it did not require any action from the legislature.
