A Riddlebarger Road couple is behind bars after CPS and Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued four small children from a filthy bug-infested house on Wednesday. Authorities then rushed the kids, ranging from 1 to 7 years old, to the hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
It all started when CPS contacted the Sheriff’s Office to say they’d been asked to do a child welfare check at Riddlebarger Road home.
Detectives Jodi Conkel and John Cart headed to the home along with a CPS investigator. What they found shocked everyone involved. The house was filled with trash and infested with bugs. Photos provided by the Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman show the horrific conditions.
Additionally, the children were filthy and suffering from multiple injuries. Investigators took the kids straight to SOMC for treatment.
They arrested David Shepherd, 27, and Amanda Shepherd, 29, for seven counts of endangering children and three counts of felonious assault. The court set their bail at $410,000.
A deputy was injured during the investigation after being stung multiple times by hornets.
This is still an ongoing investigation, and more charges could be filed.
