Roy Harold Noel Jr., 89, of Piketon, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born June 18, 1935 in Portsmouth, to the late Roy and Dorothy (Moore) Noel Sr.
Roy was a 1953 graduate of Portsmouth High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. In the mid 1950’s, Roy earned a Bronze medal for Rollerskate Dancing. In 1972, Roy won the All Events of the Portsmouth Area Men’s Bowling Tournament. He retired after 30 years at Lockheed Martin as a Machinist, where he kept the Worthington Compressors in repair. In all, Roy was a Machinist for 44 years, using his skills later in life, he earned a patent in 2013 for a P.T.O. Wrench for farm tractors. Roy was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, where the served on the Session and the Board of Deacons.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Miller.
Roy is survived by his wife, Ruthann (Sowards) Noel, whom he married on June 1, 1957, a brother, Richard Noel (Sharon) of The Villages, FL, a brother-in-law, William Miller of Beverly Hills, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for friends and family will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2025 at the funeral home, with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
