Elbert Grooms Jr., 92, of Latham, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 at his residence. He was born March 1, 1933 in Waverly, Ohio, son of the late Elbert Lyman Grooms and Hazel Opal (Herdman) Grooms, On August 4, 1950 he was united in marriage to Naomi R. Anderson who preceded him in death on February 14, 2016.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Annette Andrews) Grooms of Chillicothe and Wayne (Lori) Grooms of Latham; three daughters, June Hamlin of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, Beverly Grooms of Latham and Jane (Jason) Potter of Chillicothe; eight grandchildren, Jay Hamlin, Angela Maily, Jeremy and Cody Grooms, Zachary, Chandler and Cole Grooms, and Wyatt Potter; sister-in-law, Darlene (Mike) Schreck; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Given C. Grooms (MIA World War II) and Paul P. Grooms; three sisters, Ruth Stulley, Naomi James and Norma Grooms; a son-in-law, Wayland Hamlin; and two grandchildren, Brian and Julie Hamlin.
When they were younger Jr. and Naomi visited many churches as special singers for revivals. He attended McKibban Chapel in Nipgen, Ohio for fifty years, serving as First Elder the majority of that time. He sawed lumber most of his working life. He served Pike County Deputy Sheriff a much briefer time, but it was a time he enjoyed talking about even as he aged.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Mike Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
