Charles E. Newton, 88, of Waverly passed away Monday, October 20, at the SOMC Hospice Inpatient Center after battling cancer. He was born on November 28, 1936. Charles was the son of Harry and Helen (Franklin) Newton, a 1954 graduate of Waverly High School, member of the United States Air Force from 1956-1959, and a 40-year employee of the Mead Paper Company retiring in 1999.
Charles married Sandra Pierce on December 23, 1961. They had two children, a daughter, Jody Newton-McAllister (Martin) and son Scott (Barb) Newton and 5 grandchildren; Elliott (Megan) Newton, Jerrod (Makayla) Newton, Nick (Cassidy) Newton all of Waverly, Autumn Rose McAllister of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Mandi Newton as well as great-grandsons Landon Deacon and Walker Newton.
He is survived by sisters Janet Lemley of Kingston, Ohio and Jane Hayes of Tampa, Florida. He was preceded in death his parents, sister Wilma Brown, and brother-in-laws Don Lemley and Al Hayes.
Charles enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie and Rice Lake, Canada, carpentry, feeding the birds, and spending time with his grandchildren.
According to his wishes he will be cremated with no public service. Donations can be made in his name to Pike Pet Pals, P.O. Box 1239, Waverly, Ohio 45690.
