PPD: Drugs Put Baby In Danger

Drug-related calls were out of control on Wednesday. Portsmouth Police responded to an unending string of overdoses and drug complaints. Including one guy that wanted to report his buddy for spending the money he owed him on weed.  They also came to the rescue of an innocent baby apparently left alone in an apartment with strangers using drugs.  I’ve got highlights of the incredibly busy police logs. If you’d like to see the unfiltered version with all the details, think about becoming a VIP member of SCDN.  Click here to learn how it works.

1

ODs and Drugs

  • At  5 am, police responded to 12th Street for a report of an overdose.
  • Just before 7:30 am, there was another overdose reported on Kendall Avenue.
  • At 8:35 am, police were called to 5th Street for a report of an OD
  • Police were called to 6th Endicott Avenue for a report of an OD at 11 am. People performed CPR on the victim. The victim refused treatment when officers arrived.
  • Police were called to the Royal Inn on Kendall at 11:18 am for a report of an apparently high man who kept falling down. He was treated with NARCAN by the Portsmouth Fire Department and refused further treatment.
  • At 1:15 pm, police received a report of an apparently high woman wandering out into traffic in front of Jim Dandy.
  • At 1:54, officers were called to Kinneys Lane for a possible OD. The patient was treated by the fire department and released.
  • Another OD was reported at 4:28 pm. Someone said a man was overdosing near the playground on Robinson Avenue. He was gone when officers arrived. Witnesses said he left in a car.
  • At 6 pm, EMS responded to a man on 18th Street who was turning blue. He refused transport.
  • Just after 9 pm, police were called to an OD on Vinton. The subject woke up and refused treatment.
  • Just before 10 pm, police responded to the BP on Gallia for a report of a man stumbling around acting as if he was high. Officers gave him a ride to the Young Street Viaduct.

I Don’t Work For Your Pharmacy

A man called police at 2 pm to report drugs stolen from 12th Street.

Officers told him they could not do a report until he had a theft of drug form filled out by his doctor. The man said the pharmacy told him otherwise.

Baby In Danger

Officers were called to 17th Street to check on a 9-month-old baby at 6:30 pm.

The caller claimed the baby was being abused and that there was no food in the house. Further, the infant was left alone with random people who come and go on the list

At the home, officers found no sign of the mom. They did find a guy who’d been banned from PMHA. They issued him a summons in lieu of arrest.

The people at the home said the mother had left the baby with them and she’d be back soon. Police did not observe any physical signs of abuse on the baby.

Later that night at 9:15 pm, police received a call from a woman who was watching the baby from the earlier call. She said that there was heroin at the apartment and the mother has yet to return for the child.

At 10:31 pm, officers contacted CPS and were advised they would be there in thirty minutes.

CPS and officers arrived at the neighbor’s home and took custody of the baby at 11:22 pm.
