Vivian Yvonne (Howerton) Adams, age 85, of Waverly, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at home with her family by her side. She was born June 8, 1940, in Idaho, Ohio, to the late Lester and Vivian Louise (Hughes) Howerton.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Adams, whom she married on October 9, 1960. Also surviving are her son, Kelly (Kellie) Adams of Waverly, Ohio, and grandson Quinten (fiancée Kaylin) Adams of Destin, Florida; and her daughter, Nancy Yvonne (Steve) Terry of Waverly, Ohio, and grandchildren Meghan Yvonne (Jordan) Willis and great-granddaughter June Yvonne of Jackson, Ohio, and Jimmy (Chelsey) Thomas and great-granddaughters Ava, Amelia, and Jolene of Piketon, Ohio.
Vivian is also survived by her sister, Patricia Howerton of Bidwell, Ohio; brother-in-law Glenn (Anna) Adams of Columbus, Indiana; brother-in-law Galen Cisco of Celina, Ohio; and a special niece, Jill (Mark) Rockwell.
She was preceded in death by many loving family members and friends, including her sister, Martha Cisco; sister-in-law Judy Kay Rapp; brother-in-law Tony Adams; and granddaughter Allyson Thomas.
Vivian was a 1958 graduate of Waverly High School. She began her working career as a telephone switchboard operator. After taking several years away from the workforce to raise her children, she returned as a teller at Waverly State Bank. When the bank later became Bank One, Vivian continued her career there until she retired early in 1999 to enjoy time with her grandchildren. Vivian will be remembered for her big, warm smile, gentle spirit, the kindness she shared with everyone around her, and her famous Texas Sheet Cake.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Botkin-Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio, with Mike Diener officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery on Bridge Street in Waverly. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 1:00. Her family would like to thank Adena Hospice for their care and compassion, allowing Vivian to remain at home with her family during her final days.
