A terrifying moment unfolded Sunday evening when a maroon SUV allegedly attempted to lure children near the Greenup Fairgrounds.
According to Greenup Police, a call came into dispatch at 7:45 p.m. on June 1, 2025, reporting an attempted child abduction in the 1700 block of East Main Street. A mother told officers that a maroon Chevy SUV, possibly an Equinox with dark tinted windows, pulled up near her children. A man inside reportedly yelled at one of the kids to “get in the vehicle.”
The mother immediately approached the vehicle — and that’s when it sped off.
Police arrived quickly, but were unable to locate the vehicle. The case remains under active investigation, and Greenup Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
👀 See Something Suspicious? Here’s What to Do:
If you spot a suspicious person or vehicle — especially one interacting with children — don’t wait. Take these steps:
🚨 Call 911 immediately. Provide as many details as you can: location, vehicle description, license plate, and what you witnessed.
📸 Take a photo or video if you can do so safely.
🗣️ Don’t confront the person. Let law enforcement handle it.
🧠 Trust your gut. If something feels off, it probably is.
