Bicycle Hit by Car, Rider Airlifted
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle vs. Bicycle injury crash that occurred on SR-73 near Dry Run Road, in Scioto County. The crash was reported to the Portsmouth Post at approximately 10:23 p.m.
A 2014 Buick Verano was traveling northbound on SR-73. A Schwinn Point Beach bicycle was traveling northbound in the center turn lane, with no rear lights on.
The 2014 Buick Verano moved into the turn lane to turn onto Dry run road, striking the Schwinn bicycle.
The operator of the Buick Verano, Jacelyn Conley, 20, of West Portsmouth, Ohio was not injured and released from the scene. The operator of the Schwinn bicycle, James Cook IV, 35, of Portsmouth, Ohio was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital by Air Evac with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes of SR-73 were closed for approximately an hour while the crash was being investigated. Agencies on scene were Washington Township Fire Department and Portsmouth Ambulance were on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
