A repeat defecator at the Dari Creme bothers a local business owner and a Front Street resident says a Portsmouth City Council member has a lead foot. We break down the highlights of the Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Asleep At The Wheel
- Just after 1:30 am, a caller reported a woman passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at Speedway. The driver gave police permission to search her vehicle. Police found nothing suspicious and said the woman showed no signs of impairment. Apparently, she was just tired.
- At 5 pm, police responded to Wendy’s for a report of two people passed out in a vehicle. Officers found no signs of drug activity but did advise the sleepy people to leave the lot.
Abandoned House Fire
At 2:37 am, a Mabert Road caller reported a fire at an abandoned house. Police contacted the utility companies.
The fire department had it under control by 3:51 pm. Spectrum said they believed the blaze damaged nearby fiber-optic lines.
Domestic Disturbance
Just after 4 pm, a caller told police his mother and her boyfriend were arguing and the mom’s boyfriend was throwing things and screaming. Police arranged for the man to take a taxi somewhere else and took statements for a report.
Suspicious Activity
- A Walnut Street caller reported two suspicious characters, one on foot and one on a bike, checking car door handles at 2:47 am. Officers were unable to locate them.
- At 5:44 am, a Robinson Avenue caller observed two people on bikes at the fence to Goodwill. He said one of the individuals went inside. Police detained the man and discovered he had a warrant. They filed a criminal trespass report and impounded the bike.
Dumping at the Dari Crème
The owner of the Dari Crème on 2nd Street called police just before 9 am to report an ongoing issue on the property.
He said an older woman keeps defecating on the lot and that she was currently there in a pickup with a camper top. The woman had left by the time police arrived.
Helping Hands
- A citizen flagged down a patrol car at 9:44 am to complain about a Hudson House resident throwing things out her window. Police have frequent contact with the troubled woman. They contacted her caseworker and called an ambulance. Officers assisted her into the ambulance without incident. The ambulance transported her to the hospital for evaluation.
- Just before 10 am, officers responded to a report of a 500 lb man with breathing issues on the Scioto Trail. He refused assistance.
- Police continued lending a helping hand at 10:46 am. Medical professionals contacted them in regards to some worrisome test results for a newborn baby. They were unable to contact the mother. Police were able to find the woman. The child seemed to be all right and they advised her to contact the hospital.
Too Fast on Front Street
A Front Street caller complained to police about men on motorcycles racing up and down the street on a daily basis.
Additionally, they complained of people from a nearby transmission shop speeding.
The caller also complained that a member of Portsmouth City Council was speeding down the roadway at 60 mph.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
A McConnell Avenue caller told police his ex-girlfriend stole his guns just after 11 am. Police were unable to locate him.
Scary Behavior
A woman contacted officers at 11:24 am to report that a man had followed her and she had reason to believe he might arm her.
Police checked with the Prosecutor’s Office and they asked officers to arrest the man.
Cows At The Dollar General
A Harding Avenue Caller informed police there were once again cows on the lot at the Dollar General just after 7 pm. Police contacted the owner and headed to the scene.
