A woman summed up the reason for a wild domestic dispute before the deputy could even ask what happened.
“F— him. I caught him cheating on me, and he locked the doors.”
What allegedly happened around those locked doors involved a broken flowerpot, a lawn mower, a vehicle driven through the yard and into a barn, a metal pole at the back door and, eventually, a trip to jail.
Deputies responded to an active domestic incident after a man reportedly locked himself inside his home while a woman attempted to get back in.
Dispatchers said the caller reported that the woman appeared intoxicated and had attempted to hit him with her vehicle. Screaming could be heard in the background of the 911 call.
When the first deputy arrived, the woman was on the porch yelling. She said she’d caught her husband cheating and he’d locked her out. She denied doing anything to him or touching him.
Her husband had a very different story.
From Flowerpot to Lawn Mower
The man told the deputy the couple had been having relationship problems for about a year and had argued earlier that day.
He said his wife left that morning, telling him she was going to Hocking Hills. According to his statement, she had thrown a flowerpot at him during an earlier argument. He pointed out a broken flowerpot on the porch.
The man said that after his wife returned, he was mowing the grass when she approached and attempted to rip his shirt off. He told deputies he had video of that encounter.
Then, he said, things became much more dangerous.
The man alleged his wife got into her vehicle and accelerated through the yard directly toward him while he was mowing, making him believe she was attempting to hit him.
The deputy reported seeing vehicle tracks through the yard consistent with a vehicle having been driven there.
The husband also claimed his wife tried to ram his parked truck, but said a safety feature on her vehicle stopped it before impact.
He Puts the Mower in the Barn — She Allegedly Drives Into the Barn
The man said his wife left again, and he put the lawn mower inside the barn.
According to his statement, she subsequently returned and drove her vehicle through the barn where he was standing, again making him believe she was trying to strike him.
Once again, he said the vehicle stopped before hitting him, which he attributed to its safety system.
At that point, the man said he ran into the house, locked the doors and called 911.
But the locked door didn’t end the confrontation.
He told deputies his wife attempted to break the glass in the back door with a metal pole.
The deputy found a broken metal pole nearby and reported seeing a mark on the glass that appeared consistent with the pole having struck it.
Chaos Continues After Deputies Arrive
The deputy said the woman appeared highly intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Because he was initially the only deputy at the scene and the woman repeatedly interrupted while he tried to interview her husband, he decided to temporarily detain her so he could separate the couple and investigate.
According to the report, she pulled her arm away when the deputy attempted to handcuff her and continued resisting until he took her to the ground and gained control.
Once inside the patrol vehicle, the situation escalated again.
The report says the woman began kicking the interior of the cruiser and banging her head against the cage, forcing deputies to further restrain her because they were concerned she would injure herself.
When a deputy later attempted to secure her with a seat belt, she allegedly lunged toward him and attempted to get out of the patrol vehicle.
Deputies removed her, took her to the ground again and regained control before placing her back in the cruiser.
She was eventually transported to the Lawrence County Jail without further incident.
